FuboTV Review | Best Streaming Service for Sports Fans

July 10, 2019 By Andrew Leave a Comment

It’s 2019 and “cutting the cable” is becoming more and more common. As more modes of versatile viewing are becoming more popular thanks to the internet, people see the obsoletion of cable television and its eventual demise. One thing that has kept some consumers from jumping ship or abandoning cable entirely is most streaming services and sites don’t stream sports, especially live sports.

Well, that’s no longer the case. Over-the-top services like FuboTV can gain you access to channels that stream live sporting events.

FuboTV App Review: Introduction

FuboTV is an American over-the-top internet TV service that emphasizes and focuses on sports. Although it’s sport-centric, its wide array of channels aren’t just focused on sports. It has over 75 channels which cover international and local American sports, entertainment and news.  It’s unfortunate that Fubo isn’t any cheaper than your basic cable package but delivers more.

How much does FuboTV Cost:

As we said earlier, a FuboTV monthly subscription could cost you just as much as your standard cable subscription. If you add your internet costs, it may seem a little more expensive. Just like Sling.tv has trial offers, FuboTV comes with a trial period. The trial period will require you to enter your credit card details. It’s a 7-day trial period, so after the seventh day, they’ll start charging you to use the service.

At the time of writing this article, FuboTVs basic plan costs $54.99 per month. FuboTV also gives you a chance to add premium channels and extras for an additional fee. The reason why tv streaming services are so attractive is that they can be personalized and altered according to your needs. It is that same flexibility that makes FuboTV so enticing. There are no long forms to fill out, no contracts to sign, no hidden costs and you can cancel whenever you feel like it. Furthermore, cancellation is within a few clicks

FuboTV DVR:

FuboTV uses cloud DVR. What this means is that your recordings are uploaded onto a server that can be accessed from nearly any device. Since FuboTV is a multiplatform service, it can be accessed from a multitude of devices such as Android and iOS mobile devices, Smart TVs, PCs, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Chrome Cast.

Using the DVR record function is pretty straightforward especially if you’ve used it before. The interface is easy enough to navigate and use. All you have to do is find the program you want to record, hit record and it will store it for you, as long as you have enough FuboTV cloud storage on your account. You can also schedule recordings so you don’t have to be there in order to record whatever show or event you need.

Another great feature is that FuboTV allows you to record a show or event in full, regardless of when you started the recording. For instance, if you walk into a show thirty minutes late and try to record it, it will record the first thirty minutes that you missed and the rest of the show too.

The only problem with this is that the recording will only be available to watch after one hour after its recording is done. There are devices that fall under an exception to this rule. Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and AppleTV have instant DVR so you can watch your recordings as soon as you want to.

FuboTV is pretty flexible about how long you can keep your DVR recordings. As a matter of fact, it’s really up to you. Your recordings will last as long as you’re a FuboTV subscriber or until you decide to delete them because you no longer have enough storage.

With the basic plan, FuboTV includes 30 hours of free cloud DVR storage. If you feel like this isn’t enough space for all the entertainment you want to store and record, you can add more space at an additional cost.

500 hours will cost you an additional $9.99 per month.

FuboTV Channels:

FuboTV is a little more expensive than its peers but it also has more channels and offers better service than some of its competitors. It’s worth it though, particularly if you’re a fan of the NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS, and international soccer, plus news, network television series, and movies.

FuboTV has you covered. If your interests are only limited to local sports, you might want to give Fubo a pass. Unfortunately, FuboTV also doesn’t come with ESPN.

Notable Channels include: Fox Sports1, Fox Sports 2, NBCSN, NFL Network, NBA TV, beIN Sports, Pac-12 Network, CBS Sports Network, Big Ten Network, Golf Channel, Olympic Channel, AMC, Bravo, Food Network, HGTV, History, MSNBC, National Geographic, Fox News and Hallmark Channel.

In some regions, FuboTV also provides access to local stations. You can even go as far as DVRing the content you find from these local stations.

FuboTV Compatible Streaming Devices:

We briefly touched on this earlier on while discussing FuboTV’s DVR capabilities. While FuboTV is available on multiple platforms, it limits the number of devices you can use to stream simultaneously. You can only use two devices to stream. A third device may require you to pay an additional fee. The following devices are compatible with FuboTV:

  1. Apple TV (4th Generation and newer)
  2. Roku
  3. Amazon Fire TV
  4. Android TV
  5. Samsung Smart TV in Beta
  6. Android
  7. iOS
  8. ChromeCast
  9. Windows 8/8.1/10
  10. Linux
  11. Mac

Not a bad list of devices. However, we do wish FobuTV would allow you to stream simultaneously on more devices. We also understand that people can take advantage of this by allowing their friends to piggyback on their service for free.

Final Thoughts

FobuTV is beautifully responsive and has a great collection of channels. You’ll probably die without watching them all. But FobuTV’s market is for sports enthusiasts. You can get a cheaper streaming service that’s more entertainment oriented. But if you’re a huge sports fan, especially when it comes to international competitions then I can’t see why you wouldn’t want to get FobuTV, besides it being a little more expensive than some of its rivals. Alternatively, you could get yourself YouTubeTV, Philo tv or DirectTV now but they don’t have the same extensive list of sports channels. All in all, FuboTV is a great service. We highly recommend it. I hope you found this article to be helpful. Thank you for reading.
